A Junk, passenger or cargo vessel

Model of a Chinese junk made entirely of wood which has been stained and varnished a dark brown colour. The hull has been built plank-on-frame and the planks themselves have vertical markings along their entire length. The bow is finely shaped and the keel has been pierced in six places. The stern sweeps upwards and is very fine terminating in a rudder well to which is attached a large fenestrated rudder. The stern superstructure is square ended and extends beyond the stern. Immediately in front of the rudder well is a deep open space extending to the bottom of the vessel. The remainder of the deck is occupied by a large cabin, the interior of which is highly detailed with a square flat roof section above it. Access to the cabin is at the bow end. Four large port holes amidships have hinged covers opening upwards. On either side of each port hole is a ladder like frame that supports the flat roof. At the front of the flat roof is a rectangular cover that appears to be a hatch cover with a second rectangular cover in front of it. There are running boards on the port and starboard sides which extend from the stern to the bow. The model is equipped with a pair of killicks. The model is displayed on a pair of short rectangular supports attached to a wooden rectangular, bevelled edged baseboard atop four bun feet, all of which has been grained to resemble walnut.
