A sloop warship 'Takao' (Japan 1888)

Scale 1:48. A model of the Japanese sloop Takao (1888), made entirely in wood, painted with realistic colours, with silver plated metal fittings. The hull is painted brick red below the waterline and white above with a narrow black stripe running the entire length of the hull. Hull fittings include chrysanthemum emblems on the port and starboard bows, hawsehole covers, companion ladders rigged on the port and starboard sides, lifesaving devices, bilge keels, and two three-bladed propellers. Foredeck fittings include a Japanese flag at the bow, two machine guns, four stocked anchors, and a skylight. All the ventilators have blue painted inserts. The foremast, mainmast, funnel, and gunwales are all painted bright yellow and the decks are unpainted and scored to resemble planking. The foremast has two yards, two crow's nests, a gaff yard and a weather vane. There are five guns on carriages, all of which can be rotated. There are six ship's boats of varying types, all with white painted hulls. The single funnel is lozenge shaped in section and has a black painted top. Bridge equipment includes a binnacle, chart table, and two signaling telegraphs. The mainmast has a single yard, two crow's nests, a signaling lamp, and a machine gun. There is a Japanese naval ensign flying from the stern and three Japanese characters at the stern. The model is mounted on four turned pillar supports with cradles attached, and it is displayed in its original black lacquered display case with gold plated fittings and a matching table.
