Anchor - woodstock
Scale: Unknown. A model of a common pattern anchor with a wooden stock (1800). The main body is made from iron painted a uniform black with a square shank in section with rounded edges running parallel to the crown. At the crown there are two upturned curved arms complete with a pair of flat triangular palms finishing with pointed bills. Towards the top, the shank is rectangular in section and is drilled to take the large circular ring. The wooden stock is in two parts with a horizontal top edge and an angled bottom edge, and is held in position by metal hoops (only two painted on over a white background) and set at right angles to the arms. According to the South Kensington Museum catalogue (1865) it is one of a pair of common anchors. It was catalogued as one of a set of four see SLR1989, SLR1991 and SLR1992.
