'Balasore' (1892)

Scale: Unknown. A half block model of the starboard side of the four-masted passenger/cargo barque 'Balasore' (1892), made entirely in wood, painted and polished. The hull is polished wood made up of several horizontal sections below the waterline, painted grey above with a wide black-painted gunwale. Hull details include a clipper bow; figurehead; two starboard hawse holes; and rudder. Fittings include foredeck, raised deck amidships and poop deck, the sides of which are all painted white; a stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast, mizzen mast and jigger mast; and what appears to be a short deckhouse of hatch between the foremast and mainmast. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden backboard with bevelled edges. On three plaques attached to bottom left-hand corner, bottom centre, and bottom right-hand corner of backboard 'Barclay Curle & Co Ltd Shipbuilders & Engineers Glasgow', 'Dimensions Length per Register 311ft 00. Breadth 48ft 65. Depth 24ft 50. Gross Tonnage 2723 64' and 'Balasore 1892'.
