Bust depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805)
A plaster version of Robert Shout's bust of Nelson as produced in black basalt by Wedgwood in 1798. It has been updated by altering the hair to a brushed-forward style. The figure is shown in rear-admiral's full-dress uniform, with one Naval gold medal inscribed 'NILE 1. AUGT. 1798' and wearing the ribbon and star of the Bath. Incised on the back is 'Pub'd 10th Oct. 1798 by L. Gahagan made & sold by R. Shout Holborn. Lord Nelson alter'd by R. Shout, 18 Holborn London 1805'. The surface is painted black.
