Command flag, Rear-Admiral, Japan (1897-1945)
Rear-Admiral's command flag, Japan. The flag is made of wool bunting with a cotton hoist, a rope halyard is attached. The seams are machine sewn and finished by hand. The hems at the edges are also hand sewn. Design: white, with a red border at the top and bottom between which is an eight-rayed, red sun placed in the centre of the flag. This design was in use 1897-1945. The flag was acquired via the Naval War Trophies Committee in 1947.
