The hilt of the dirk consists of a brass cross-guard with slightly inversed arms and acorn finials. On the cross on the obverse of the cross-guard is a roughly oval plaque consisting of a foul anchor with a Tudor crown above, the whole encircled by a laurel wreath, which is knotted at the base.
