Full hull model, 8 oared whaleboat, starboard
Scale: 1:24. A contemporary full hull model of an eight-oared whaleboat. The model is partially decked and equipped with seven thwarts, two of which are fitted to take a mast and sail. In the stern sheets there is a backboard whilst along the gunwale, ivory has been used to show the metal fittings such as the beds for the rowlocks and the cappings at the bow and stern. The hull has been carved from the solid and is complete with the floors and steamed frames internally. At this scale, the model represents a hull measuring approximately 30 feet in length by 6 feet in the beam.
