Full hull model, racing four shell, port broadside

Scale: 1:16. Full hull model of a racing four shell. The model is equipped with metal out-riggers (mounted off-centre), oars, rudder and sliding seats, and has silk canvas decking at the bow and stern. It represents a coxless four and would have been steered by the feet of the bow oarsman.Ranging from a single scull up to the larger eight, these boats were raced regularly on the Thames by the local rowing clubs as well as the numerous University Boat Clubs. One of the highlights of the racing calendar is the Henley Regatta where both the clubs and Universities from the UK, and abroad, race against each other. Rowing became an Olympic sport in 1896.
