Scale: 1:48. Model of HMS 'Forward' (1904) made in wood painted in realistic colours with plated metal fittings. The hull is painted brick red below the waterline, blue grey above, and all the decks are unpainted varnished wood scored to resemble planking. All the deck fittings, ventilators, and funnels are painted grey. Hull fittings include two anchors at the bows, scaling ladders at the port and starboard bows, bilge keels, two rows of port holes on the port and starboard quarters and three quarters, a companion ladder rigged to the starboard quarter and two three-bladed propellers at the stern. The foredeck fittings include a union flag flying from an ensign staff at the bow, anchor winch gear, a wave deflector, three guns, and a raised bridge and pilot house. Bridge equipment includes a sight, a chart table, a binnacle, a signalling lamp, and a signal telegraph. The single mast is positioned at the front of the main deck and is equipped with a topmast, a yard, and two gaff booms. There are a total of nine ship's boats, all painted grey, seven of which are rigged to davits and the remaining two are stowed on chocks. The three funnels are in line and raked. There are eight guns and two torpedo launchers on the main deck. Stern deck fittings include a signalling lamp, three guns, two pairs of davits, two life saving devices, and a white ensign flying from the stern. 'Forward' is written on the stern. The model is mounted on four gold plated turned pillar supports and is displayed in its original mahogany display case with matching table. Painted on the display case is: '(7)' and '(17)'. The plaque is inscribed 'Model of fleet scouts, "Forward and Foresight" built for the British Admiralty by The Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Co Ltd Govan Glasgow Length 365'-0" Breadth 38'-9" Draught 14'-0" Displacement 2850 tons Speed 25.5 knots'.
