HMS 'Rifleman' (1846)
Scale: 1:48. A contemporary half block model of HMS 'Rifleman' (1846), a first class wood screw sloop gunvessel(gunboat). The hull is carved from a solid block of wood(?) and is painted a metallic copper/bronze colour with black topsides separated by a thin white line along the waterline. There are five gunports cut into the solid bulwarks together with a pair of channels and a single cathead. The clipper-shaped bow is fitted with headrails and trailboard with a decorated scroll figurehead, above which is fitted a stump bowsprit. It has a relatively flat sheer and is fitted with a pair of stump masts and a telescopic black funnel on deck. At the stern, the rounded galleries have raised construction detail with a rudder below fitted to the stern frame(screw not fitted) with gudgeons and pintles. The whole model is fitted to a rectangular wooden backboard painted a creamy white and surrounded by a stained moulded edging on which is inscribed "(10)" under the keel amidships.
