Ireland Coast Guard
Admiralty chart no. 2587. A single sheet on linen-backed paper, hand coloured engraving. Scale circa 1:1,000,000, the bar scale is in nautic miles. The chart is ungraduated and it contains a key to ships, headquarters of Divisions, stations, detachments and batteries. The coastline is coloured to show the location of Divisions. Railway, telegraph and telephone lines are also marked.
The Irish Coast Guard, formed in 1822, had revenue-protection and coastal defence roles and was also a reserve force for the British Navy.
