Knee former model

Scale:Unknown. Model of a former for bending timber into knees (1813). The model is made entirely of wood carved from a single block of stained and polished elm. On one side there are three curved grooves, square in section into which the steamed timbers are set for forming. The other side has a circular, square and half-circular hole cut in together with two pairs of metal eyes on the vertical sides. Only one of the three grooves is fitted with a steamed laminated timber. Model complete with one illegible paper label glued to the side as well as a hand written label which states "Models of Fomers for Knees Ect. for bending timber, Hookey, Woolwich Yard, 1813, REF Soc. of Arts Vol32 page 91 & Vol 38 Plate 26." Part of series of five models see SLR2323, SLR 2324, SLR2326 and SLR2327.
