Launch of HMS Royal Albert screw steamer, 131 guns, at Woolwich, 13 May 1854

The screw steamer 'Royal Albert' was one of the last major warships to be built at Woolwich Dockyard. She was launched on 13 May 1854 by Queen Victoria with Prince Albert in attendance. Ship launches on the Thames were always popular public spectacles, drawing huge crowds to witness the event. 'Royal Albert' was a first-rate screw steamer of 131 guns.
