Midship section; Old and new patent of a shroud
Scale: Unknown. Sectional model depicting a half midship section, with deck, lower mast, bulwark, channels and shrouds. The outside of the hull is painted light terracotta red below a white waterline, whilst the topsides are painted black with a white stripe along the gun deck level and along the top of the bulwark. The deck is finished in a single piece of naturally varnished wood, on which are etched the individual planks. The inboard sides of the bulwarks are finished in a creamy white colour. The wooden lower mast is secured to the model by two brass metal clamps, which extend to the cheeks below the fighting platform. There are two rope shrouds rigged to the top of the mast, which come down to the level of the channel and metal chain plates. One patent shows the traditional wooden deadeyes and rigged with rope lanyards, whilst the other shows the later iron bottle screw arrangement, all of which are finished in a black colour. Inside the model below the upper deck are a number of metal fittings connecting the shroud plates to the wooden hull.Original size: 1100 mm x 255 mm x 345 mm
