Oval side ring hilted sword
Oval side ring hilted sword. Owned by Captain Alexander Hood (1758-98). The hilt consists of a gilt, olive-shaped pommel with ribs and grooves, prominent tang button. The knuckle bow guard has a groove at each edge joined by one bar to an oval side ring, the ricasso having ribs and grooves as the pommel. The grip is bound with fine silver wire, overlaid with a thicker plaited wire.
