Plate 10: 'The Commodores home in foreground – Auckland New Zealand'

A leather-bound carte de visite album with decorative inlaid panel of painted flowes, containing 189 carte de visite albumen prints. The spine is broken on the album. The contains portrait and topographical prints relating to the Maori war in New Zealand in 1865, with a focus on the actions of HMS Esk (1854), a 21-gun screw First Class Corvette, on which the collector possibly Lt Henry L C Robinson served. It is possible that his wife compiled the album. The album continues with portrait photographs of naval officers, many of which are identified.
