Port quarter view of the barque 'Cobre' (1844) dried out at Swansea. Inversed digital file to create b&w positive

A wax paper calotype negative. A port quarter view of the three-masted barque Cobre (1844) dried out alongside a quay in the River Towe, Swansea. The lower yards of the fore and main mast have been scandalized (an acute angle to the mast) and the ship has a slight list to port. Calvert Jones lists two photographs of the Cobra in a letter dated 3 November 1846 to WHF Talbot [BL, LA46/123]. The list states: 144 “Cobre” aground. pier' and '145. Bow view of Cobre and schooner'. Jones had arrived back in England from his European trip in early June 1846 to sort out the afffairs of his dead uncle.
