Presentation small-sword which belonged to Rear-Admiral John Macbride (d.1800)
The shell is inscribed: 'Presented to Rear Admiral John Macbride for his active and vigilant exertions in defence of the commerce of Great Britain, By the subscribers for encouraging the capture of French privateers, London 18 April 1793'. The blade is inscribed with 'Vive Le Roy'. The sword is significant as the first known recorded piece by the sword maker Richard Teed (1757-1816) who was later appointed sword maker to the Lloyd Patriotic Fund.James Morisset
