Seascape form the 'Umberleigh'
A sketch showing the effects of moonlight from the deck of the 'Umberleigh'. The calm sea is shown as an expanse of grey-blue tones flecked with small diagonal dashes of colour. The sky is indicated by several bands of horizontal colour as a backdrop to the focal point of the painting, the light from the moon. The moon shines through cloud in the centre of the sky in between coloured clouds, and casts a brilliant silvery light over the surface of the water. A thin horizontal strip of colour lies above the horizon. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Umberleigh', from Barry, Wales to Vancouver, Canada, in December 1933 and returned in March 1934.
