Sectional model; Plank-on-frame
Scale: Unknown. A sectional model showing the framing of the Royal yacht 'Victoria & Albert' (1843), a wooden paddle vessel. It depicts a diagonal system of construction with only a partial frame, but with three thicknesses of planking worked in different directions. The model has been made in wood and varnished. The frames are arranged in pairs and there are six frames in total. There are small sections of two pairs of deck beams located one above the other, and these deck beams also show small sections of deck attached to them. The exterior hull shows two layers of diagonal framing, one applied over the other, and there is a separating material between the two layers of planking depicted by coloured and varnished paper on the model. The upper layer of diagonal framing is depicted in two strips. A third layer of planking is also depicted in the form of horizontal planking, and only the upper most planking and lower most planking is depicted. Two gun ports are depicted. A long piece of wood has been broken off at the base of the model, exposing several metal pins, possibly where the model was fixed to a baseboard. Above the upper section of deck a paper label has been applied to the rail, marked '4'.
