Sectional model; Stern model; Half block model

Scale: 1:48. A model of the starboard side of the elliptical stern of HMS 'Active' (1845) made entirely in wood and painted in realistic colours. The model is carved from solid wood and painted a copper colour below the waterline and black above with a white stripe along the gun deck. The gun port areas are painted black with a red highlight. The deck is painted cream. Handwritten on deck is 'Active, 1853'. Stamped on deck '23' and '6'. Indistinctly written on the deck is 'Cambrian'. The propeller aperture is shown but the propeller itself is not depicted. The stern quarter shows signs of being changed or modified. Three stern gallery windows are depicted. The model is displayed on a plain backboard painted off white.
