'Severn' (1880)

Scale: 1:48. A Half block design model of the steam yacht 'Severn' (1880). The hull is constructed from several horizontal wooden planks in bread and butter fashion, finished in natural varnished wood below the waterline with the topside painted black above. It is complete with a clipper bow with a strum[ bowsprit, and counter stern below which is a stern frame with a single screw. There is a thin wooden rubbing piece running the full length of the hull just below the gunwale at roughly deck level. The deck is flush with the gunwale, finished in a natural varnished wood and is fitted with three stump masts and funnel, all made from a darker wood, together with a large deckhouse/engine room superstructure and a companionway just forward of the mizzen mast. The whole model is mounted on a polished/varnished wooden rectangular backboard with moulded edges. A plaque is inscribed "Severn R.Y.S. Built at Barrow in Furness, 1880.
