The Dutch Indiamen passing Bok op Raa (Bjaelkero), 25 August 1665
A slight drawing by van de Velde which has later been brought to a finished state by the gifted amateur artist and collector Charles Gore. The heavy pen and ink work betrays eighteenth century additions. Gore and Jakob Philipp Hackert, a German landscape painter, accompanied Richard Payne Knight on his expedition into Sicily in 1777.
Willem van de Velde, the Elder
