The 'Vleig' (circa 1800)

Scale: circa 1:33. A full hull model of the Vleig (active 1800), a Dutch 18-gun cutter. The model is decked, equipped and rigged. The hull is of the usual cutter type, wide in midships but with fine bows and stern, and very deep. It is clinker built, as the early English cutters were. It carries the cutter rig, with a single mast carrying both fore and aft and square sails. It has a very long bowsprit and tall mast for speed. The model is possibly a copy of another model of the same vessel in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, so a Dutch origin is commonly attributed to it. However its style is largely English, and its deep hull would not have been easy to use in shallow Dutch waters.
