The yacht 'Isabel' on the first voyage into Smith Sound
This painting relates to Admiral Sir Edward Augustus Inglefield's search for the missing Arctic explorer Sir John Franklin in 1852.The depiction of the steamer 'Isabel' sailing across glassy green Arctic waters scattered with ice floating beneath an atmospherically lit sky could be influenced by the depiction of the same vessel lying off Deptford (BHC3419) by George Chambers Senior.
